Information We Collect

Anki N2.jp is designed to keep most data on your device. We only collect what is necessary to operate the app and run ads to support its development.

📱 Data Stored Locally (never leaves your device)

  • Study progress: Lessons completed, flashcard review history, SRS intervals
  • Streak & stats: Daily streak count, learned word counts, quiz scores
  • App preferences: Language setting (English/Vietnamese), notification schedule, dark/light mode
  • Bookmarks: Words and grammar items you have marked for review
  • Weak word list: Words you repeatedly get wrong (to prioritise review)

🛒 Purchase Data (processed by Apple)

  • Subscription status: Whether you are on Free, Weekly, Monthly, Six-Month, Annual, or Lifetime Pro — verified via StoreKit 2. We never see your payment details.
  • Transaction IDs: Used only to confirm entitlements; stored by Apple, not by us.

📣 Advertising Data (collected by TikTok Business SDK)

  • Device Identifier (IDFA/IDFV): Used to measure ad campaign effectiveness
  • Ad interaction events: App installs, app opens, in-app purchase events (used to optimise ad delivery)
  • Approximate location: Country/region derived from IP address for ad targeting
  • Device model & OS version: For ad rendering compatibility

Data Retention

📱 Local App Data

  • Stored on your device until you delete the app or clear app storage
  • Deleting the app removes all local study data permanently
  • We cannot recover this data — there is no server-side backup

🛒 Purchase Records

  • Retained by Apple in accordance with Apple's data retention policy
  • We do not independently store transaction records beyond active entitlement checks

📣 Ad Attribution Data

  • Retained by TikTok Business SDK per TikTok's data retention policy (typically 13 months for ad measurement)
  • You can opt out at any time — see Section 8 below

Children's Privacy

Anki N2.jp is designed for learners preparing for the JLPT N2 Japanese Language Proficiency Test. This exam is typically taken by adults and advanced high school students.

Age Restriction
This app is not directed at children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at the address in Section 9.

TikTok Business SDK

We include the TikTok Business SDK to measure the effectiveness of our TikTok advertising campaigns. This SDK may collect the following:

App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
On iOS 14.5+, the TikTok SDK respects Apple's ATT framework. The app will request your permission before accessing the IDFA. If you deny permission, only limited, privacy-preserving measurement occurs.
StoreKit 2 (Apple)

Used for all in-app purchases and subscriptions. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store your credit card or payment method details.

Apple Push Notification Service (APNs)
Built-in · iOS

Used to deliver local study reminders (morning reminder, daily reminder, streak warning). Notifications are scheduled locally on-device — no notification content is sent to external servers.

Data Security

🔐 On-Device Security

  • All local data is protected by iOS Data Protection (hardware-level encryption)
  • Study data stored in UserDefaults and app-sandboxed storage — inaccessible to other apps
  • No custom server-side database means no server-side data breach risk for your study data

🛒 Purchase Security

  • Subscription verification uses StoreKit 2's signed JWS transactions — cryptographically verified on-device
  • No payment credentials ever pass through our code

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we apply industry-standard protections, we cannot guarantee absolute security of data held by third-party SDKs (e.g. TikTok Business SDK).

Your Rights & Opt-Out Options

You have meaningful controls over your data. Here is how to exercise them:

📣 Opt Out of Ad Tracking (TikTok SDK)

To stop the TikTok Business SDK from accessing your IDFA for ad personalisation:

  1. Open the iOS Settings app on your iPhone
  2. Tap Privacy & Security
  3. Tap Tracking
  4. Find Anki N2.jp and toggle it OFF

You can also disable "Allow Apps to Request to Track" globally to deny all apps IDFA access automatically.

🗑️ Delete Your Local Study Data

To delete all app data stored on your device:

  1. Open iOS Settings
  2. Scroll to Anki N2.jp
  3. Tap Delete App (and confirm deletion of data)

This permanently removes all study progress, streaks, preferences, and bookmarks. This action cannot be undone.

🔔 Disable Notifications

To stop receiving study reminders:

  1. Open iOS Settings
  2. Tap Notifications
  3. Find Anki N2.jp and toggle Allow Notifications off

You can also manage notification preferences directly inside the app under Settings → Notifications.

🌍 GDPR / CCPA Rights (EU & California Users)

  • Right to Access: Request a summary of data we hold about you
  • Right to Deletion: Request deletion of your data from third-party services (TikTok) — see their privacy policies for instructions
  • Right to Object: Object to processing of your data for advertising purposes
  • Right to Portability: Your local study data can be accessed directly on your device

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • Post a notice within the app for material changes
  • Not retroactively apply more permissive data uses without your explicit consent

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Anki N2.jp need an account or login?
No. The app works entirely without an account. All your study data is stored locally on your device. This means there is no cloud sync — if you delete the app or switch devices, your progress is not recoverable.
Why does the app show TikTok ads? I'm a Pro subscriber.
The TikTok Business SDK is used primarily for measuring whether our advertising campaigns are working — it is part of the app infrastructure shared across all users. Pro subscribers will see fewer or no ads in the app interface, but the SDK itself remains active for attribution purposes. You can always opt out of tracking via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Does TikTok track me even if I don't use TikTok?
The TikTok Business SDK can collect device identifiers (IDFA/IDFV) and app events (like installs and purchases) regardless of whether you have a TikTok account. This data is used for ad attribution — measuring whether someone who saw our TikTok ad then installed the app. You can prevent this by revoking tracking permission in iOS Settings. See Section 8 for step-by-step instructions.
Is my Japanese study progress backed up to the cloud?
Not by us. Your study data lives entirely on your device. iOS iCloud backups may back up the app's local storage if you have iCloud Backup enabled in your iPhone settings, but this is Apple's infrastructure — not ours. We strongly recommend enabling iCloud Backup to avoid losing your progress.
What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?
Cancelling your subscription revokes Pro access at the end of your billing period. All your local study data (streaks, learned words, bookmarks) remains on your device and is accessible in the Free tier. We do not delete any local data when your subscription ends.
Does the app use AI or send my flashcard answers to a server?
No. All flashcard logic, SRS (Spaced Repetition System) scheduling, quiz generation, and weak-word tracking run entirely on-device. No flashcard question or answer data is sent to any server.
I'm in the EU. Does GDPR apply?
Yes. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. Contact us at covieworganization.fujichat@proton.me to exercise these rights.
I'm in California. Does CCPA apply?
Yes. California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of the "sale" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. To exercise your rights, contact us using the email above.
